November News from 2 East

November 8th, 2009

November has tip-toed in and snuck up on us!!! We honored the saints with our projects and are now completing book reports, due Monday, Nov. 23rd. Please use your best penmanship, and no copying from the book. Tell me in your words about the story. Think about the characters, setting and problem in a story, as well as the solution. Make predictions about what might happen. Don’t forget to draw and color your favorite part of the story.

A reminder about Reading Logs- you should be reading and recording each night in your log. I’ll be checking this as part of your Lang. Arts grade. In December I’ll send home a new log and this one should be filled.

Keep practicing the Act of Contrition and learn your Mass responses. In this month of November, try to find 5 things to be thankful for each day!

With the early outbreak of the flu, I am asking each child to bring in 1 box of tissues and a container of Lysol wipes to help keep the germs down. As per school policy, teachers are unable to send home work until the child returns to school. Check this blog and our webpage for current lessons and activities that will help you to know what we are covering in the classroom. As students return to school we will catch up on what we can during free time, and send home missed work with sufficient time given to complete and return.

In Math, we have explored ordinal numbers and it would be good to review them at home. We are now taking surveys, tallying and graphing, as well as continuing our math fact review. Keep practicing those facts! My concern is not speed, but accuracy! Practice (no fingers is our goal!)

In Grammar we’ve been identifying Proper Nouns, making sure that they are capitalized. The students did very well on their test! I’m so proud of them!

We are making compound words in Phonics. Please review short and long vowel sounds at home. We can all use some more practice with that.

Our Social Studies lessons will highlight the Native Americans, early settlers and colonists. We are enjoying our classroom tepee. How many students wrote Native American messages for parents to decode?

As we get closer to the holidays, check this blog for upcoming activities and information.

Hope to hear from you. -Mrs. Glogau
Reminder: Parent/Teacher conferences on Wed.. Nov. 11th.

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

August 24th, 2009

Welcome to 2 East. I am Mrs. Glogau. We have a very exciting and busy year ahead! I know that you will like second grade. We have many fun projects and activities planned. Please write back to me on this blog and tell about yourself and your favorite things. Some of my favorite things are chocolate, quilts, books, beagles, teddy bears, painting, sewing, Social Studies, the Phillies, visiting Lancaster, and teaching! I am married and have two grown sons, Jason and Matt. They also went to Bishop Schad School when it was called Sacred Heart. Jason has a beagle named Cupcake! She is very cute and very well behaved. Now it’s your turn to tell me about you! I hope to hear from you. -Mrs. Glogau

God Bless America . . . Land that I love . . .

May 23rd, 2007

Ok 2nd graders-
This goes out to all you Social Studies fans. I think that Social Studies is my favorite subject! We have been talking about our nation (The United States of America), our national government and leaders, and national symbols. So many of you have visited interesting places with your parents and grandparents. We’ve talked about the Liberty Bell and Independence Mall in Philadelphia (and yes – the home of the Phillies and the Eagles), the White House, the Capitol building, the Washington monument and museums in Washington, DC. Please use this blogging opportunity to tell us about some interesting places that you have visited. That’s the best thing about Social Studies – learning about and visiting new places. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures!!!

We’re so excited!

April 25th, 2007

Welcome back to our blog page. It’s that time of year. We’re back from Easter break and we’re all excited about getting back to work! Aren’t we??? What we are most excited about is receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion. We have been practicing our mass responses and the proper way to receive the body and blood of Jesus. Keep practicing, 2nd graders and let’s be sure that we are preparing to receive Jesus by behaving as He would want us to.
What are your thoughts about this special day? What special plans have you made? You are welcome to share your feelings about this important day. Hope to hear from you soon!
-Mrs. Glogau
